What Are You Bringing to This Moment?

January 18, 2011 by Daniel Collinsworth

At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit or further away from it.
Thich Nhat Hanh

Being mindful of your contribution to any given moment is a powerful way to consciously create your life. It starts with being present.

When you bring your full presence into a moment – whether you are alone, interacting with someone, working, meditating, etc. – you tune into a richness of experience/being. There is a tranquil center here where you can consciously choose the attitude, the belief or the action that you will bring into it.

The key here is showing up and connecting. There is a big difference between just passively existing and being actively, consciously present and aware in any given moment. The latter is where we cultivate creative/constructive habits that come to shape our perception of the world.

We Become What We Do

Try bringing gratitude to a moment that is challenging; it will help you to see the challenge as a learning experience instead of a pain in the ass. Or bring the full richness of your presence into a conversation with someone. They will notice, and it fosters an exchange of kindness and good will.

Take time to connect with yourself, too. Bring the fullness of your awareness into your being and take note of how you're feeling physically, mentally, emotionally – be present with it. We spend too much time ignoring ourselves, or attempting to escape how we're feeling. Being fully present with ourselves, and allowing whatever feelings to come through and just be experienced – without judgment – is a great way to cultivate self-kindness and self-compassion.

You can bring joy to a moment, or resolve, or tenderness, or gentleness or silence. It's about connecting and being fully present.

Don't wait to live and love without holding back. This moment – right now – is where it all begins and where it counts.
