The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth, dwelling deeply in the present moment and feeling truly alive.Thich Nhat Hanh
This moment. Take a deep breath and put your focus on right now.
Feel the calmness at the center of this moment, even if your surroundings aren't very calm. Feel the beauty, the joy, the unconditional love... all present, right here and now.
The moment comes, and then it goes. This is the beautiful experience of being, in all its fullness and intimacy. How did it feel?
I recommend doing this as often as it comes to mind many times per day, if possible. Creating small spaces for mindfulness generates a sort of joyful reverb effect throughout your day you become aware of it radiating outward into other aspects of your day.
It brings calmness and perspective to a moment that is stressful. It brings beauty and joy to a moment that is seemingly mundane. You become aware of a richness of color, sound, life and purpose that you may not have noticed before.
Try it while you're walking to your car... or glimpsing the sun shining from behind a tree in the distance... in a place where there are lots of people... or in the midst of a task at work...
Become aware of how magnificent this moment really is, and you will feel truly alive.
